Wellville Talk: “Becoming American”

As part of Spartanburg’s Way to Wellville, a national challenge to accelerate health in five communities across the country, we are hosting Wellville Talk.  Wellville Talk is an opportunity for residents to gather, learn together about topics that affect our community health, hear from subject matter experts, discuss implication for us as member of the community, and explore ways to ensure all people in Spartanburg have equal opportunity for health.

We invite you to join us on Tuesday, January 30th from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. in the Barrett Room of the Spartanburg Public Library Downtown Campus for our next Wellville Talk. We will be viewing the third episode in the documentary series, Unnatural Causes … Is Inequality Making Us Sick? This documentary presents findings that suggest there is much more to our health than bad habits, health care, or genes. So far, we have viewed Episode One: “In Sickness and In Wealth,” where we discussed the connection between wealth and health, and Episode Two: “When the Bough Breaks,” where we discussed the birth outcomes reality for the African American community and how racism impacts this outcome. In Episode Three: “Becoming American,” we will discuss the following question: Latino immigrants arrive healthy, so why don’t they stay that way?

We hope you will join us on January 30th. The event is free and open to the community. Bring a friend and bring your lunch.
